The end result. About as clean of an install as you can get. I made several test phone calls and the microphone placement worked fine, everyone said they could hear me without issue even when driving.
I hope this helps out some one. I spent a LOT of time trying to figure out how best to install this kit. Then spent a LOT more time doing this install. Now that I have a game plan, I could do it pretty quickly. I don't know if I'd be able to do this with an automatic trans Jetta/Golf. I don't know if this info would directly carry over to a Passat. But I will say this, the ad that is on the inside cover of Driver Gear for these things... they show the control pad above the head light switch with no wire showing. Like hell... they just cut the wire off the control pad and stuck it on the dash. You can't tell me they drilled/cut a big enough hole in the dash for the plug of the control pad to fit though. I call BS on that.
